VOM has distributed aid previously in the Dohuk region
Turkish bombardments in northern Iraq this summer have displaced Christians in the Zakho district for the second time since 2014.
. In June, Turkey staged a military operation against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) that extended all the way to Dohuk province, which is home to a large concentration of Christians. About 80 families were displaced and 10 churches closed. Some of these same Christians were displaced by the advance of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (ISIS) in the summer of 2014, and only about 40 percent had returned to their villages since that invasion. Many families have suffered great economic losses as a result of leaving their fruit farms behind.
