Most persecution of Christians in Laos is done by family members or village authorities who are concerned that Christianity offends the spirits. The central government also persecutes Christians occasionally, because Christianity is viewed as an American religion or as a tool of the CIA.

Since January 2023, we have distributed almost 6,700 print and audio to pastors and Christians in Laos. But we are still receiving more requests for Bibles! Since Bible distribution is closely regulated by the government, mass distributions are not possible. But through our network of local Christians, we can hand-deliver individual Bibles to those who have requested them.

There are a total of 18 provinces in Laos. When surveying the number of total believers from the 18 provinces, we have seen a trend of around 10,000 new believers coming to Christ every year. Based on this trend, we need approximately 10,000 Bibles every year in order to meet all requests for new believers alone!

In addition to this, there are some long-time Christians who do not have their own Bible. There are also Christians whose Bibles are old and falling apart and could benefit from receiving a new Bible.

There is a great need for Bibles in Laos at this time! As one regional leader put it, “If you have a lot of people coming to Jesus, you need a lot of Bibles”.

Another regional leader commented, “We know that there are these risks, and we are doing this work with the expectation that we will pay the price.”

We recently finished distributing almost 4,000 Bibles across Laos! Below are a few thank-you notes from churches in Laos who received Bibles!

These books are necessary because we see that the gospel is spreading rapidly and widely. In many areas, the number of people coming to know and believe in God is increasing day by day, and it is seen that many churches are short of Bibles and Christian books. Then they can understand the truth of God’s plan of redemption through Jesus Christ well. Many new believers who received the Bible were very happy and joyful, promising to keep the Bible as good as possible and to read it to benefit all of us in our daily lives.

• Pray for Christians in Outermost Regions of Laos – In the outermost regions of Laos, restrictions and persecution are more severe, making it difficult for these groups to maintain communication with the church in other areas. Please pray for Christians in these areas to have wisdom in carrying out underground ministry.
• Pray for Additional Distributions – With increasing numbers of new believers in Laos each year, additional distributions are necessary to assist the church in Laos with discipleship efforts. Please pray for the planning of a new Bible distribution project in 2025!
• Pray for Christians in Laos to prepare for persecution – When Christian leaders in Laos evangelize new believers, they teach them also to prepare for discrimination, persecution, arrest, and even death on account of belief in Christ. Pray for the Holy Spirit to prepare them to take up their cross.
