GUINEA — New Believers Rejected by Their Families
These women are new converts from Islam who are being supported by a local church
A number of Guinean Christian converts from Islam are being persecuted by their Muslim families.
One pastor reported that 13 church members are in need of a place to stay after being expelled from their homes; the pastor has gone to court several times in attempts to protect them from their families. One woman, Mariam, was abused and threatened, and her family eventually filed a legal document disowning her. Unfortunately, finding new housing is not a simple matter for Christians. “I found out that if you are a Christian here, it is very hard to find a place to rent,” a VOM worker said. “Over 80 percent of the community is Muslim.”
Pray that new believers will remain strong in faith despite pressure from their families.
