DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND, MOVIE ABOUT PERSECUTED PASTOR WILL RECEIVE ENCORE SHOWINGS AT VOICE OF THE MARTYRS OFFICE AND CHURCHES ACROSS KOREA
Due to the success of its initial opening night, Voice of the Martyrs Korea has scheduled a second free public showing of the movie Tortured for Christ at their Jeongneung office, on Saturday April 13 at 4PM. Pre-registration by calling the organization at 02-2065-0703. The film is also being made available to churches, seminaries, and cell groups for viewing.
Jilava Prison, where Rev. Wurmbrand was imprisoned beginning in 1948
Based on the best-selling book of the same name, Tortured for Christ is the story of Richard Wurmbrand, a Romanian pastor who spent fourteen years in prison for his faith during the time of communist occupation. The movie was filmed on location with an all-Romanian cast at Jilava Prison, where Rev. Wurmbrand was imprisoned beginning in 1948.
“Often, movie producers choose a large, comfortable theatre for their movie premiers,” Voice of the Martyrs Korea representative Hyun Sook Foley explains.
“but we felt our ‘underground’ basement-level event hall in Jeongneung is truer to the experience of persecuted Christians around the world today. Our office is not big or fancy, but every wall reminds visitors of Christians who are imprisoned for their faith.”
“It was beautiful to see people worshipping God in the midst of pesecution,” one audience member reported.
“You can’t see this kind of movie anywhere else,” another added.
“This was the first time I heard Pastor Wurmbrand’s story,” one audience member said. “It made me rethink what it means to be Christian, and I hope other people can watch the movie and do the same.
“I think it would be great if many people watched this movie,” another audience member commented.
The event hall, which holds around 150, was filled to capacity for the March 18 movie premiere. Most were visiting Voice of the Martyrs for the first time.
