체코 공화국 이전 공산주의 체제에서 성장한 피터 야섹은 많은 기독교 박해를 경험했다. 어린 시절, 학교에서 돌아왔을 때 열렬한 기독교 신자인 부모님이 모두 사라진 일도 있었다. 비밀경찰에 체포되어 심문을 받았던 것이다. 야섹은 이런 신앙을 배경으로 자라나 대학에서 분석화학과 물리화학을 공부했고 졸업 후 임상 화학, 혈액학, 수혈을 공부했다. 이후 한 병원의 원장으로 10년 동안 재직했다. 피터 야섹은 1990년대부터 전 세계 핍박받는 기독교인들을 돕는 일에 관심을 쏟았으며, 1992년에는 체코 순교자의 소리를 공동 설립하였다. 2002년 이후 미국 순교자의 소리 전임 사역자로 일하고 있다.
Growing up in the communist precursor to Czech Republic, Petr Jasek was no stranger to persecution. Once, Jasek returned home from school to find both of his parents, both strong Christians, missing. They had been arrested and interrogated by the secret police.
Jasek studied analytical and physical chemistry, post graduated in clinical chemistry, hematology and blood transfusion. Ten years he worked as a hospital director.
He has been involved in helping the persecuted Christians around the world since the beginning of the 1990’s. In 1992 he co-founded the Czech branch of the Voice of the Martyrs. Since 2002 he has worked full time for the VOM USA.
Petr is married and has got two adult children.
순교자의 소리 아프리카 지역 책임자인 피터 야섹(Petr Jasek)이 수단 감옥에서 보낸 445일 간의 체험과 그곳에서 IS 추종자들에게 당한 핍박에 관해 나누기 위해 한국을 방문한다.
2016년 1월 29일, 4일로 예정되어 있던 피터 야섹의 수단 선교 여행은 무기한 연장되고 말았다. ‘간첩행위’ 혐의로 체포되어 수단 감옥에 갇혔기 때문이다.
야섹은 수년 동안 핍박받는 기독교인들을 돕기 위해 여러 차례 수단을 여행했다. 체포되어 종신형을 선고 받은 마지막 여행을 통해 피터 야섹은 수단의 핍박받는 기독교인들이 처한 곤경을 직접 눈으로 확인하게 되었다.
피터 야섹은 감옥에 갇혀 지낸 지 445일 만에 오마르 알 바시르(Omar Al Bashir) 수단 대통령의 사면을 받았다. 현재 그는 새롭게 얻은 자유를 통해 여전히 고난을 당하고 있는 수단 기독교인들을 세상에 분명히 알리기 위해 힘쓰고 있다.
2018년 2월 12일 오후 7시 30분, 한국 순교자의 소리(마포 소재)에서 피터 야섹 선교사는 그가 수단 교회 및 감옥 안팎에서 경험했던 간증을 전할 예정이다.
Petr Jasek, Voice of the Martyrs’ Africa regional director, comes to VOM Korea to share about his 445 day long prison sentence in Sudan and the IS sympathizers who persecuted him while in prison.
On January 29th, Voice of the Martyrs’ Africa regional director, Petr Jasek, learned that his four-day mission trip to Sudan would be extended indefinitely after he was arrested on suspicion of “espionage.”
Jasek had travelled to Sudan many times over the years in order to help persecuted Christians in the region. But on this occasion, while there he was given first-hand insight into the plight of these persecuted Christians: The Sudanese government arrested Jasek and sentenced him to life in prison.
After spending more than 445 days in prison, Jasek was pardoned from his life sentence by Sudanese president Omar Al Bashir. He is using his newfound freedom to raise awareness for the challenges still being faced by Sudanese Christians.
On Monday February 12 at 7:30PM in the Voice of the Martyrs office in Mapo, Petr Jasek will share his experiences with the Sudanese church—both inside and outside of prison. He will also share about his persecution at the hands of Muslim jihadists in prison.
