MOZAMBIQUE — Christians Attacked in Nampula
An example of buildings recently destroyed by militant Islamists in Mozambique.
Attacks by militant Islamic extremists continue in northern Mozambique.
On September 6, 2022, militants attacked two districts in Nampula Provence, beheading six Christians and shooting to death an 83-year-old Italian nun who had served as a missionary in the area since 1963. The attackers also burned numerous homes and buildings as well as a church and ministry center. Front-line workers reported that Nampula was an area to which many people had fled in recent years, believing it was safer than other parts of northern Mozambique where extremist Muslim groups have been active since 2017.
