UGANDA — She Transformed Her Bar into a Church

Betty and her family in the former bar.

Betty became a believer late in her life, and this complete life change prompted her to turn a bar she owned into a church.

Her decision to leave Islam deeply angered her three adult sons. When Betty’s husband died several years before, she had inherited a car, several rental properties and other businesses from him. Her sons have made her life miserable. They took away the car, confiscated the restaurant she was building with borrowed funds and instructed her tenants to pay rent only to them. “I gave up everything they asked for, but I am not willing to let them destroy the church,” Betty said of her sons. “They always threaten me, but I will not remove it.”

Her younger children, who live with her, have also accepted Christ, and her middle son was badly beaten by his older brothers, sending him to the hospital for two weeks.
