Testimonies from Christians who received a Lao Bible

Testimonies from Christians who received a Lao Bible

We distributed over 2,000 Bibles in 2023, and Lao Christians were overjoyed! Since Bible distribution is closely regulated by the government, mass distributions are not possible. But through our network of local Christians, we can hand-deliver individual Bibles to those who have requested them.

We surveyed Christians who delivered the Bibles and hymnals to Lao Christians around the country. We’d like to share some of their responses with you below:

WHAT WERE HE BIGGEST DIFFICULTIES IN DISTRIBUTING THE BIBLES?

“Some places can’t be reached by cars, so we have to take motorbikes to deliver Bibles, fixing them little by little which causes more expenses and delays in delivery.”

“We have more churches that need the Bible for their members in our area. But since we have a limited amount of Bibles this time we were able to distribute only to some of them.”

“Traveling to different churches. The road is very bad and there are too many potholes.”

“The risk to be caught by the authorities is the biggest concern we have each time while doing distribution and shipping; especially with books or materials that relate to Christianity.”

WHAT DID THE PEOPLE RECEIVING THE BIBLES THINK ABOUT THE DISTRIBUTION?

“It is very good because many people in the church do not have a Bible…Many people are very happy because they have their own scriptures, beautiful scriptures, and they like these scriptures very much.”

The recipients said it is the greatest gift they ever had—the Bible—and that they will take care of it well. (They said) they will keep reading and meditate on it daily as much as they can so that they will be able to connect with God and have peace in Him.”

“It was a great blessing from God for them so that they can prepare to get to know God better by themselves. Thank God for providing the Bible. Now we can read and memorize it daily to know God better in life and we will keep it well.”

“It is the greatest project ever because most Christians, especially in the countryside, have never had their own Bible. Sometimes, in some churches, the members must share Bibles with one another so that they can read the Bible for themselves to know more about God on their own.”

HOW DID YOU SEE THE LORD WORKING AS YOU DISTRIBUTED THE BIBLES?

“It is very good because this book is a new version, easy to read for people with little knowledge and for people in rural areas… I saw it as a matter of joy and pleasing to God that many people will read the Bible and that it is a suitable volume and not too big.”

“Our distribution was done secretly with carefulness for our safety as well as the local church. The Bible is the (thing that is) most needed for the change in a Christian’s life and growing in spiritually.”

“(Through the distribution,) God is changing many people’s life daily through their reading and many more people got saved and are growing in their knowledge in the Lord. God is always the faithful provider for the needy people. He is the answer to our prayer, and He is always good in His time.”

“We can see the peace and joy in the community. I have learned that God has blessed many churches and I can see that many pastors and leaders were very happy to receive the bibles.”

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY?

“Many of our members can’t read and write so it would be a blessing if we could have audio Bibles or Mp3s…”

“I’m grateful for your precious heart of support. Thank you for your help and support for us as Lao pastors and leaders. I pray to God to bless you and your team of servants for all you have done for us. It’s a great opportunity for us to have a chance to touch the great quality Bible…We are a very new church, many of us didn’t have a Bible. We all were very excited about it. Praise God we all now have a Bible. Thank you!

“I pray that God will continue this project so that many more Christians, especially those churches whose members are in need will be blessed with this project.”

Prayer Requests for this project:

  • Pray for Lao authorities and nonbelievers – Pray that the Lao authorities and nonbelievers in Laos would hear the witness of our Lao brothers and sisters and believe in the gospel.

  • Pray for Lao Christians who cannot read – Pray for Lao Christians who cannot read to also be able to hear the word read aloud by other Christians around them. VOMK has also begun distributing audio Bibles in Laos for the sake of such brothers and sisters.
