According to Voice of the Martyrs Korea representative Hyun Sook Foley, each day on the calendar lists a detailed prayer request for an actual Christian or church facing persecution, while each month features different full-color inspirational photos of Christians carrying on their ministry in countries closed to the gospel. 

Representative Foley says, “The first request of our persecuted brothers and sisters is always ‘Pray for us.’ However, their prayers are often quite different than how we might pray. Instead of asking to be rescued from suffering, for example, they ask for God to keep them faithful in the midst of suffering and to use their suffering to further the gospel. That’s why this calendar is special: We ask persecuted Christians what they want us to pray for them, rather than us just praying for them what we think they need.”     

Foley believes that both the detailed daily prayer requests and the photos of joyful Christians in closed countries are important for Christians to see. “The calendar is not full of sad faces or depressing prayer requests because in our experience, persecuted Christians are typically more joyful and bold and ministry-driven than Christians in other countries,” says Foley. “We believe Christians will grow in their faith as a result of using this calendar to pray together daily with persecuted Christians.”
