VOMK: UNTIL CHURCHES ARE FREE TO GATHER, “TORTURED FOR CHRIST” MOVIE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR FREE ONLINE
In response to new government restrictions on church gatherings, Voice of the Martyrs Korea has made its award-winning feature film “Tortured for Christ” available for free online viewing at www.vomkorea.com/tfc.
The movie is normally only available through specially arranged showings to whole churches, but according to Voice of the Martyrs Korea representative Dr. Hyun Sook Foley, the ministry decided to make the movie available for free online viewing until restrictions on church gatherings are rescinded.
“These are concerning times for churches,” says Representative Foley. “Initially church activities were canceled in an effort to ‘flatten the curve’ of Coronavirus infection. But now cancellation of church activities has become part of an ongoing virus control strategy. We felt it was an important time for Christians to be able to see this true story of how Christians in the previous generation saw their own activities increasingly restricted, and how they responded with boldness, creativity, and faithfulness to Christ.”
“Tortured for Christ” tells the true story of VOM founder Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, as written in his international bestselling book, ‘Tortured for Christ’. The award-winning movie was filmed entirely in Romania, including inside one of the prisons where Pastor Wurmbrand endured torture and solitary confinement during his 14–year imprisonment for Christian activity. Two versions are available for free viewing online: A subtitled version and a dubbed version. Viewing is free, though online registration is required.
Voice of the Martyrs Korea made the movie available for free online viewing during Holy Week and the weekends leading up to Easter this year. Representative Foley says that nearly 25,000 people watched at least some portion of the movie during that time.
“Since then, people keep calling our office and asking on our Facebook page when we will make the movie available again for free online,” Representative Foley says. “When we saw the new restrictions being placed on churches, we knew that now was God’s timing. We made the decision that as long as churches are restricted from freely meeting, we will offer free access to this movie. The movie is designed to equip and inspire Christians and churches to continue to be faithful even as circumstances in our country become more and more difficult.”
Individuals interested in watching “Tortured for Christ” for free can go to www.vomkorea.com/tfc and complete the registration process to view the movie immediately. Churches interested in hosting a showing of the movie can contact the ministry at 02-2065-0703.
Here are posts on VOMK’s Facebook page from individuals who viewed the movie during the previous free viewing period:
