중동에서 하나님은 그 어떤 테러조직보다 더 강하다
‘Uncharted’(핍박받는 기독교인을 위한 사역단체로 한국 순교자의 소리의 중동 사역 협력기관)의 회장 톰 도일(Tom Doyle) 목사가 그의 세계적인 베스트셀러 『Dreams and Visions(한국어 제목: 꿈과 환상)』의 한국어 출판에 즈음하여 이 책을 소개하기 위해 한국 순교자의 소리를 방문한다.
중동은 테러리스트들과 극단주의자들의 지역으로 가장 잘 알려져 있다. 그러나 베스트셀러 8권을 낸 저자이며 중동과 중앙아시아 전임 선교사로 11년째 활동하는 톰 도일 목사는 어떤 폭탄보다 폭발력이 강한 현상 한 가지가 그 지역을 흔들고 있다는 사실을 알고 있다.
“우리는 예수님이 꿈과 환상을 통하여 모든 곳의 무슬림에게 자신을 나타내고 있다는 사실을 목격한다.” 톰 도일 목사는 그의 베스트셀러 『꿈과 환상(Dreams and Visions)』에서 이렇게 설명한다. “많은 이슬람 국가와 수없이 많은 무슬림 문화가 예수님의 사랑에 침략당해왔다.”
기독교로 개종하면 핍박을 받고 처형까지도 당하는 문화 속에 살면서도, 다수의 무슬림이 이 꿈에 영감을 받아 그리스도를 그들의 주님이시며 구원자로 영접한다. 한 번도 선교사를 만나거나, 성경을 읽거나, 교회에 가지 않았는데도 말이다. 톰 도일 목사는 『꿈과 환상』을 통해 중동에 거주하는 회심자 몇 명의 이야기를 전 세계 기독교인 공동체에 전하려고 시도한다.
『꿈과 환상』은 미국에서 출판된 뒤, 베스트셀러가 되었을 뿐 아니라 그리스도 안에 있는 무슬림 형제자매를 바라보는 기독교인의 시각을 근본적으로 바꿔놓았다. 이는 단순히 예수님이 나타나는 꿈과 환상에 관한 책이 아니라, 하나님께서 중동 지방에 역사하고 계신다는 사실에 관한 책이다.

톰 도일 목사 약력
톰 도일 목사는 1979년에 비올라(Biola College) 대학을 졸업하고, 1983년에 댈러스 신학대학원(Dallas Theological Seminary)을 졸업했다. 이스라엘 관광 안내원 자격증을 가진 그는 70회 이상 이스라엘을 여행했다. 콜로라도, 텍사스, 뉴멕시코에서 20년 넘게 목회한 뒤, ‘e3 Partners의 I Am Second 사역’ 중동 책임자가 되었다. 현재는 중동 사역 단체인 ‘Uncharted’를 창립하여 회장으로 활동 중이다. 37년 동안 동행한 그의 아내 조앤은 중동 여성을 위한 사역 단체 ‘Not Forgotten’의 책임자로 남편과 함께 일한다. 자녀 여섯에 이미 손자 손녀 넷을 둔 두 사람은 스무 명이 넘는 손자 손녀를 얻게 해달라고 기도하고 있다! 톰 도일 목사는 『Dreams and Visions: Is Jesus Awakening the Muslim World?』, 『Standing in the Fire: Courageous Christians Living in Frightening Times』, 『Killing Christians: Living the Faith Where it is Not Safe to Believe』 등을 포함한 베스트셀러 8권을 썼다.
Pastor Tom Doyle, the CEO of Uncharted (a ministry to persecuted Christians, and VOM Korea’s Middle East partner), comes to VOM Korea to speak about the new Korean language publication of his international best-seller, Dreams and Visions.
Although the Middle East is best known for its extremists and terrorists, Pastor Tom Doyle, best-selling author of eight books and a full-time missionary to the Middle East and Central Asia for 11 years, knows of a phenomenon more explosive than any bomb is currently shaking the region.
“What we see is Jesus presenting Himself to Muslims everywhere through dreams and visions,” Pastor Doyle explains in his best-selling book, Dreams and Visions. “Dozens of Islamic countries and countless Muslim cultures have been invaded by Jesus’ love.”
Despite living in a culture where converting to Christianity mean persecution (or even execution), many Muslims are inspired by these dreams to accept Christ as their Lord and savior, without ever even having met a missionary, read a Bible, or gone to church. Dreams and Visions is Pastor Doyle’s attempt to share the stories of several Christian converts in the Middle East with the global Christian community.
After its release in America, Dreams and Visions not only became a best-seller but fundamentally changed the way Christians saw their Muslim brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s not just a book about dreams and visions of Christ, but about the reality of God’s movement in the Middle East.

Pastor Tom Doyle Biography
Pastor Tom Doyle graduated from Biola College in 1979 and Dallas Theological Seminary in 1983, and is a licensed guide for the State of Israel with over 70 trips. After pastoring churches in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico for 20 years, he became the Middle East director for e3 Partners/I Am Second. He presently serves as the Founder and President of his own ministry to the Middle East called Uncharted. His wife of 37 years, JoAnn, serves with him as the director of Not Forgotten, a ministry to women of the Middle East. They have six children and four grandchildren and are praying for about 20 more!
