The book is a compilation of the Foley couple\u2019s lectures at the organization\u2019s six-month Underground Seminary training program.” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:1.2em|text_align:left|color:%23111111″ google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css=”” el_class=”headline”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\u201cToday when Christians use the word \u2018gospel<\/span>\u2019,<\/span>\u00a0they use it to refer to the \u2018problem-solution-benefits\u2019 model that some Christian evangelists created\u00a0<\/span>in order to<\/span>\u00a0explain Christ\u2019s death\u00a0<\/span>using the same techniques\u00a0<\/span>advertisers\u00a0<\/span>use to\u00a0<\/span>sell cars and cosmetics<\/span>\u00a0in 30 seconds<\/span>,\u201d says Pastor Foley. \u201c<\/span>Problem: Sin. Solution: Jesus died on the cross to pay for my sin. Benefit: Heaven. The goal is to be able to quickly\u00a0<\/span>persuade people to become a Christian<\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]But according to Pastor Foley,\u00a0<\/span>that definition of gospel, despite its popularity, is not biblical.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]\u201cThe word \u2018gospel\u2019 has\u00a0<\/span>a very specific<\/span>\u00a0meaning in the Bible,\u201d says Pastor Foley. \u201cIt refers to the things of first importance about who Jesus is and what he does, as taught by Jesus himself. We are not\u00a0<\/span>permitted<\/span>\u00a0to add to it or subtract from it, and Christ even tells us how he wants us to proclaim it. The New Testament is the gospel proclaimed and then explained in detail.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”57989″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][vc_custom_heading text=”The Gospel book is now available for purchase through the Voice of the Martyrs Korea office or website.” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%230a0101|line_height:1.45em” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Pastor Foley says that the biblical gospel message is not more complicated to teach or preach than the\u00a0<\/span>popular\u00a0<\/span>modern substitute\u00a0<\/span>that is called \u201cthe gospel<\/span>\u201d,<\/span>\u00a0but it is\u00a0<\/span>more complete and deep<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]\u201cThe biblical gospel message is actually printed in its entirety on the cover of our book,\u201d says Pastor Foley. \u201cIt\u2019s a completely different message than the popular modern substitute version because it is centered on the identity of Christ and the fullness of his work, not on us and our needs and interests.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Pastor Foley emphasizes that the book consists of the historical Protestant understanding of the biblical gospel, not his own unique teaching.\u00a0<\/span>The 300-page book includes one chapter on each of the 6 \u201cconfessions\u201d that compose the gospel shown on the book\u2019s cover.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][\/vc_section][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Pastor Foley says that\u00a0<\/span>only\u00a0<\/span>the biblical gospel\u00a0<\/span>is capable of saving<\/span>\u00a0the hearer. \u201cThe\u00a0<\/span>modern substitute gospel<\/span>\u00a0can only try to interest and persuade the hearer, because the message is only human thinking,\u201d says Pastor Foley. \u201cBut as the Protestant reformers said, \u2018<\/span><\/span>Praedicatio<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Verbi<\/span>\u00a0Dei\u00a0<\/span>est Verbum Dei<\/span><\/span>\u2019.<\/span>\u00a0That is Latin for\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u2018The preaching of the Word of God<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is the Word of God.\u2019 That means that when we proclaim the\u00a0<\/span>g<\/span>ospel the way Christ taught it, Christ\u00a0<\/span>actually becomes<\/span>\u00a0present to save the hearer. When the gospel is proclaimed, Christ\u00a0<\/span>actually do<\/span>es<\/span>\u00a0to the hearer\u00a0<\/span>at that moment\u00a0<\/span>the things that are being proclaimed.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Pastor Foley says that he and Dr<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Foley created their Underground Seminary training program on which\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The Gospel<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>book is based because of the comments a Korean Christian deacon made to them several years ago.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”57991″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][vc_custom_heading text=”CEO Pastor Eric Foley and Representative Dr. Hyun Sook Foley teach the newest Underground Seminary class at the Voice of the Martyrs Korea office in Daejeon.” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%230a0101|line_height:1.45em” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\u201cThe deacon said to us, \u2018Korean Christians already know the gospel. What we need to now know is how to protect our religious freedoms through politics\u2019,\u201d says Pastor Foley. \u201cBut it was\u00a0<\/span>clear\u00a0<\/span>that she\u00a0<\/span>didn\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0know the biblical gospel. She knew only that her sins had been forgiven because of Christ\u2019s death. But she did not know that that same Christ defeated all of God\u2019s enemies on the\u00a0<\/span>c<\/span>ross<\/span>, and that that same Christ presently holds all power and authority in heaven and on earth as he rules at God\u2019s right hand.\u00a0<\/span>Christ\u00a0<\/span>has defeated his enemies but will not destroy them until his return, because he has commanded his followers to proclaim his offer of mercy to\u00a0<\/span>all of<\/span>\u00a0his defeated enemies<\/span>, including us<\/span>. That offer of mercy is in fact the biblical gospel. Because the deacon did not know the biblical gospel, she was following various preachers into the world of demonstrations and politics. She had constant anxiety about who would be\u00a0<\/span>elected<\/span>. She believed that it was her responsibility to Christianize her country.
