[vc_section][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”55224″ img_size=”full” css=””][vc_custom_heading text=”80 law enforcement officers raided a branch of Zion Church in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province on August 3, forcibly detaining 21 adults and 6 children who were attending the gathering, according to persecution ministry Voice of the Martyrs Korea and its US-based partner, China Aid. ” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:1.2em|text_align:left|color:%23111111″ google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css=”” el_class=”headline”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\u201c<\/span>Zion Church<\/span>, <\/span>one of Beijing\u2019s largest megachurches, <\/span>is led by Korean Chinese <\/span>P<\/span>astor <\/span>Jin <\/span><\/span>Mingri<\/span><\/span>, also known as <\/span>\u2018<\/span>Pastor Ezra<\/span>\u2019<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> said V<\/span>o<\/span>ice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr<\/span>.<\/span> Hyun Sook Foley. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>The church <\/span>gather<\/span>ed<\/span> more than 1,500 in attendance on Sundays until September 2018, at which point the building was shut down by authorities<\/span> and the church was banned<\/span>. Since then, the church has met outdoors and in small groups in believer\u2019s homes, with authorities periodically detaining church leaders for various alleged offenses.<\/span>\u201d<\/span> She says that authorities continue to restrict Pastor Jin\u2019s movement.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Representative Foley says that the August 3 raid on the Zion C<\/span>h<\/span>urch branch <\/span>in Jiaxing City<\/span> southwest of Shanghai <\/span>follows multiple raids against other Zion church branches this summer, including three in <\/span><\/span>Chongqing<\/span> and others in <\/span>Hangzhou, Ningbo, <\/span>and <\/span>Guiyang<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span>The August raid is <\/span>like <\/span>the <\/span>aftershock <\/span>of a major <\/span>earthquake,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]According to a <\/span>Zion Church <\/span>public <\/span>prayer letter <\/span>obtained by Voice of the Martyrs Korea and China Aid, the detained <\/span>believers and children were taken to the Jiaxing Municipal Public Security Bureau for interrogation. Some members were detained until late at night, with 9 individuals held overnight.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”55227″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Among th<\/span>ose detained was Sister <\/span>Zhan Ge<\/span>, a young woman<\/span> who was <\/span>sentenced to 12 days of administrative detention and fined 500 yuan for the charge of \u201cengaging in activities under the name of a banned organization.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>The church <\/span>prayer letter expressed concern that even though police knew that Sister <\/span>Zhan Ge suffers from depression, five male police officers conducted a brutal interrogation of her<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>. <\/span>\u201cThey handcuffed her even though she made no effort to resist. They searched her home, confiscated religious books and other items as evidence, and ignored her request for an <\/span>administrative review<\/span> of police actions<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span> Representative Foley says that the woman\u2019s <\/span>family has hired a<\/span>n<\/span> attorney<\/span> for her.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]The Zion Church <\/span>public prayer letter <\/span>strongly condemn<\/span>ed<\/span> th<\/span>e raid as a violation of <\/span>citizens’ religious beliefs and personal freedoms<\/span>, requesting prayer for the church and those who were detained.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”55219″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][vc_custom_heading text=”Zion church member Zhan Ge handcuffed by the police” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%230a0101|line_height:1.45em” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Representative Foley says that while the raids on Zion Church have been severe, the<\/span>y <\/span>are a sign of <\/span>the church<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s continuing strength after years of persecution.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Zion C<\/span>hurch was banned and its main building shut down almost seven years ago. Its senior pastor is constantly being watched. <\/span>Its branches keep getting raided and its leaders keep getting detained. But Zion Church continues to grow <\/span><\/span>stronger spiritually<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> says Representative Foley<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the public prayer letter following the August 3 raid, <\/span>Zion Church\u2019s <\/span>Pastor Jin <\/span>Mingri<\/span> wrote, <\/span>\u201cThe Lord reminds us that the student cannot be greater than the teacher; if He suffers, we also suffer with Him. The church has faced the same slander, attacks, and suppression for two thousand years, but they will <\/span>ultimately meet<\/span> the same fate. God’s children will surely receive the peace, joy, and victory promised by the Lord.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
