\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>These three families are living examples of what the Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 3:8: <\/span>\u2018<\/span>F<\/span>or <\/span>his <\/span>sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ<\/span>\u2019<\/span> (<\/span><\/span>\ub0b4\uac00<\/span><\/span> \uadf8\ub97c<\/span><\/span> \uc704\ud558\uc5ec<\/span><\/span> \ubaa8\ub4e0<\/span><\/span> \uac83\uc744<\/span><\/span> \uc783\uc5b4\ubc84\ub9ac\uace0<\/span><\/span> \ubc30\uc124\ubb3c\ub85c<\/span><\/span> \uc5ec\uae40\uc740<\/span><\/span> \uadf8\ub9ac\uc2a4\ub3c4\ub97c<\/span><\/span> \uc5bb\uace0<\/span><\/span>)<\/span>\u201d<\/span>, says Representative Foley.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201c<\/span>If we were faced with that same choice, probably many of us would<\/span> file a lawsuit or complain to the media. But Paul says that he considers what he lost to be rubbish, and these families in Vietnam have that same attitude. They are continuing to rejoice even though they have lost everything.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Mr. and Mrs. B <\/span>(name withheld for security reasons) <\/span>are one of the three Christian families whose case Voice of the Martyrs Korea has been documenting in partnership with its sister ministry Voice of the Martyrs Australia. \u201cMr. <\/span>and Mrs. B worked <\/span>very hard to<\/span> acquire <\/span>two hectares <\/span>(approx. 6050 <\/span>pyong<\/span>) <\/span>of land<\/span>, but when they became Christian<\/span>, local authorities <\/span>came to their home frequently, <\/span>threaten<\/span>ing<\/span> and physically attack<\/span>ing<\/span> them <\/span>in order to <\/span>make them renounce their faith<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>. <\/span>She says the couple remained steadfast in their faith, even after authorities confiscated their land. \u201c<\/span>The<\/span> authorities even reminded <\/span>Mrs<\/span> B of what they called her <\/span>\u2018bad family history\u2019<\/span>: Her father had fought against the communists in the Vietnam War.\u201d\u00a0<\/span> Representative Foley says that the couple is now living in a shack they built for themselves on a small piece of land they purchased with the little money they had remaining. \u201cMr. B<\/span> is <\/span>now a member of a <\/span>mission team travel<\/span>ing around the country to <\/span>share the gospel<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”55120″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][vc_custom_heading text=”Christians, like this woman who lives in a mountain village in Vietnam, face expulsion, confiscation of property and physical violence. ” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%230a0101|line_height:1.45em” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Land confiscation or destruction is a common tactic used by authorities to try to force Christians to renounce their Christian faith, according to Representative Foley. She says Brother L (name withheld for security reasons) had been hailed by local authorities as a good citizen and a knowledgeable farmer, but when they learned that he had been evangelizing others without government permission, they immediately revoked the benefits they had previously given him. \u201cThe authorities had provided him with what they call a \u2018red book\u2019\u2014a legal document showing that someone has the legal right to use a particular piece of land,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cBut when they found out that he was sharing his faith, they revoked his \u2018red book\u2019, seized his land and forced his family to leave his village.\u201d Representative Foley says that his family is now temporarily living with another Christian family.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]According to Representative Foley, t<\/span>he persecution of Christians <\/span>remains <\/span>common in rural regions of Vietnam<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

\u201cBelievers regularly face threats like<\/span> expulsion from their villages, confiscation or destruction of property, and physical violence<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>They\u2019re prevented from supporting themselves, and t<\/span>hey\u2019re excluded from <\/span>social benefits <\/span>and government <\/span>aid programs<\/span>.<\/span> Then they\u2019re told by authorities, \u2018All these problems will go away if you just renounce your faith\u2019.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
