\u201cT<\/span>he Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) and the China Christian Council (CCC)<\/span> announced their \u2018<\/span>Sacred Music Ministry Blueprint<\/span>\u2019<\/span> at a meeting of 40 key church leaders in Beijing on <\/span>May 7<\/span>,\u201d says Voice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr<\/span>.<\/span> Hyun Sook Foley<\/span>.<\/span> \u201cThe \u2018Blueprint\u2019 calls for <\/span>an original song library with <\/span>\u2018<\/span>Chinese characteristics<\/span>\u2019 to be developed and then made available to churches through online apps.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Representative Foley says that since 2021, access to music and worship-related resources outside of state control has been severely restricted. \u201cThe government blocked access to popular Christian music apps like \u2018Praise Hymn Net\u2019 and \u2018Song of Songs<\/span>\u2019,<\/span> so churches no longer have access to traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs. But what churches will have access to <\/span>now <\/span>is music that the government believes<\/span> is compatible with Chinese communism, including new \u2018Sinicized\u2019 hymns<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

According to Pastor Bob Fu, CEO of Voice of the Martyrs Korea\u2019s partner ministry China Aid, <\/span>\u201cThe Chinese Communist Party under this brutal dictator Xi Jinping has indeed intensified its persecution against Christians in recent years. One of the aspects is to make the Christian music to be compatible with the \u2018socialism spirit<\/span>\u2019,<\/span> with the \u2018communism spirit<\/span>\u2019,<\/span> with Xi Jinping\u2019s own communist revolutionary slogans. <\/span>So <\/span>basically<\/span> the Christians every Sunday, before they sing the doxology, they <\/span>have to<\/span> rise up<\/span> and sing the national communist anthem first, sing the praises of the communist heroes, instead of worshiping the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201c<\/span>Up until now, the government has been working to control every other part of Christian life\u2014seminaries, sermons, who can become a pastor. They even install CCTV on the pulpit and in each corner of the church so that they can <\/span>track <\/span>who is coming to church<\/span> through face recognition software<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cBut Christians have at least been able to sing the old hymns, and the old hymns teach the right theology. <\/span>T<\/span>he Communist Party knows that if they want to change Christians\u2019 theology, <\/span>they\u2019re<\/span> going to have to change the hymns.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Representative Foley says that now that the Chinese Communist Party has cracked down on Christian communication on the Internet,<\/span> Christian radio broadcasts are a \u201clifeline\u201d that can help Chinese Christians continue to access traditional hymns, <\/span>accurate<\/span> readings of the Bible, and preaching that \u201cglorifies Christ, not Communism.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

\u201cVoice of the Martyrs broadcasts two half-hour programs into China daily,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cChinese government enforcement is focused on blocking <\/span>Christian <\/span>Internet content, so <\/span>Christian <\/span>content sent by radio is <\/span>less likely to be <\/span>stop<\/span>ped<\/span>. <\/span>Plus<\/span> it\u2019s<\/span> much harder for the government to find and punish <\/span>Chinese Christians who <\/span>are accessing Christian content on the radio. When <\/span>Christians access content through websites and apps, <\/span>that <\/span>leaves a<\/span> \u2018digital trail\u2019 that the <\/span>government <\/span>can <\/span>follow<\/span> to find and punish the person who accessed illegal content via a website or app<\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
