According to Voice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr. Hyun Sook Foley who led the training event, “Kids of Courage“ was written and designed by Voice of the Martyrs to inspire children (ages K-6th grade) with real-life stories of Christians facing persecution. ” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:1.2em|text_align:left|color:%23111111″ google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css=”” el_class=”headline”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Our goal in creating the material was to educate children about persecuted Christians <\/span>in a fun and interactive way in order to <\/span>encourage <\/span>them to <\/span>pray and take action to support <\/span>these <\/span>believers<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> says Representative Foley. She says the curriculum also teaches children how to stand up for their own faith. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>We<\/span>\u2019<\/span>re using <\/span>stories, <\/span>c<\/span>oloring pages, skits, puzzles, and <\/span>games <\/span>to teach kids <\/span>valuable life lessons they can learn from <\/span>bold <\/span>Christian <\/span>believers<\/span> throughout history and today.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

They need to hear s<\/span>tories of those who have <\/span>remained<\/span> faithful to God in the face of adversity<\/span>. T<\/span>h<\/span>ey need <\/span>examples of obedience and loyalty<\/span> to God<\/span>.<\/span> And they need to learn about these things in a way that is fun <\/span>and also<\/span> sensitive to the challenges they are facing.<\/span>\u201d<\/span> She says the <\/span>curriculum <\/span>shows <\/span>children <\/span>how they can <\/span>share their faith with <\/span>their friends and <\/span>others<\/span> in environments where being <\/span>a <\/span>C<\/span>h<\/span>ristian is not easy<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Attendees at the <\/span>5-hour <\/span>training event <\/span>learned how to teach the material from the North Korean underground Christian workbook by <\/span>participating<\/span> in the activities themselves.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”54047″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][vc_custom_heading text=”Attendees at the event learned about the life of underground Christians in North Korea through the \u201cKids of Courage\u201d material for elementary school children.” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%230a0101|line_height:1.45em” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Kim <\/span>Samonim<\/span>,<\/span> who serves a church in Incheon<\/span>,<\/span> said<\/span>,<\/span> \u201c<\/span>Today<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s session was a fresh shock! We talk about mission and <\/span>martyrdo<\/span>m a lot at church and <\/span>teach<\/span> children about it, but I was surprised to see the materials and <\/span>realize<\/span> that we can teach children about the <\/span>m<\/span>artyrs<\/span>\u2019<\/span> spirit and persecution through role play, <\/span>game<\/span> and food. Our children love role-play, they will enjoy a lot!<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Deacon Kim from a church in <\/span>Kyunggi<\/span>-do said<\/span>,<\/span> \u201c<\/span>Through this time, I learned about the stories of persecuted Christians in North Korea, and the parts that I vaguely knew ca<\/span>me to me vividly<\/span>! When I <\/span>actually participated<\/span> in various activities such as games, sharing<\/span>,<\/span> and making<\/span> things<\/span>, the parts that I <\/span>didn<\/span>\u2019<\/span>t<\/span> understand<\/span> became clear and I was <\/span>able<\/span> to think specifically about how to <\/span>utilize<\/span> the textbook to <\/span>teach<\/span> the children.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Lee <\/span>Jundosanim<\/span> who serves at church in Seoul said, <\/span>\u201c<\/span>It touched my heart to hear that NK is not a country but a brother. Through this training, children should be raised to pray and realize that NK is our brother<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s country, not someone else<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s country. This is very necessary training and teaching material.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ms. Park who participated with two students from an alternative school in Gwangju, said<\/span>,<\/span> \u201c<\/span>As an alternative school, I always felt like it was a homework to raise children as Christian<\/span>s<\/span> who are different from the world, not better than the world, but I was <\/span>grateful<\/span> to find the answer by practicing the actual curriculum today. I was touched to see that the children who came with me listened with more concentration. I believe they will <\/span>teach<\/span> other children well with <\/span>these materials<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley says the teacher\u2019s guide and student workbooks on Nigeria and India will be available in the next two months.
