\u201cHe has been <\/span>arrested more than 100 times <\/span>for his work as a street evangelist,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cEven though he <\/span>has now spent more than <\/span>700 days<\/span> in prison<\/span>, every time he is <\/span>released,<\/span> he returns to the street to continue preaching the gospel.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201c<\/span>In <\/span>August 2023, <\/span>Evangelist <\/span>Chen wanted to take a flight from Shanghai to Jeju Island<\/span> to preach the gospel<\/span> on Jeju Island, but authorities <\/span>intercepted <\/span>him at the Shanghai Airport and sent him back <\/span>to Hengyang<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> says Representative Foley.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]After being <\/span>detained and arrested <\/span>in Hengyang<\/span>, Evangelist Chen <\/span>was convicted by the court <\/span>last April <\/span>o<\/span>n<\/span> the charge of <\/span>\u201c<\/span>organizing and financing unlawful gatherings<\/span>\u201d.<\/span> The evangelist<\/span> was sentenced on June 20, <\/span>2024,<\/span> to <\/span>19 months<\/span> in prison, a term he completed on April 2.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”53827″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][vc_custom_heading text=”Chinese street evangelist Chen Wensheng and his wife (Source: Internet)” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%230a0101|line_height:1.45em” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]According to Representative Foley, the court gave Evangelist <\/span>Chen <\/span>a heavy sentence for two reasons.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>First, they noted that despite being arrested and detained so many times, he still refuse<\/span>s<\/span> to change his ways,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> says Representative Foley. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Second, they said that he had <\/span>\u2018<\/span>disturbed the social order<\/span>\u2019<\/span> by repeatedly organizing individual and group evangelistic activities in public places like <\/span>vegetable markets, crossroads, store<\/span>front<\/span>s, and ethnic minority areas.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

P<\/span>lease continue to intercede for our family members.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cNow I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has <\/span>actually resulted<\/span> in the advance of the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is in the cause of Christ. Most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the message fearlessly (Phil 1:12-14).\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cHe is <\/span>much thinner than he was before he was <\/span>sent to prison<\/span>, but he is <\/span>still <\/span>smiling and full of joy<\/span>, as always,\u201d she says<\/span>. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>He revealed that during his time in prison he <\/span>continued to <\/span>preach<\/span> the gospel<\/span>. More <\/span>than 300 <\/span>prisoners receive<\/span>d<\/span> Christ<\/span>, and three <\/span>prisoners <\/span>were baptized.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cYears <\/span>ago<\/span> Evangelist Chen <\/span>was a drug addict<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>When he heard the gospel, he <\/span>was delivered from his addiction and <\/span>immediately<\/span> began preaching on the streets. <\/span>He\u2019s<\/span> been a street preacher for more than 1<\/span>5<\/span> years. <\/span>He is a member of a small church, and yet<\/span> he continues to inspire Christians around the world with his bold, costly witness for the gospel<\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
