[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]The <\/span>Hebi<\/span> Municipal Radio Management Bureau is an official organization responsible for political propaganda under the Henan Provincial Government.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Representative Foley says Voice of the Martyrs Korea and <\/span>ChinaAid<\/span> have learned that t<\/span>he content of the lecture which included that statement was then published on the Chinese social media platform<\/span>,<\/span> Weibo<\/span>, before being <\/span>deleted<\/span> two days later.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]According to <\/span>China analyst<\/span> Jennifer Zeng, who <\/span>operates<\/span> the <\/span>blog \u201cInconvenient Truths<\/span>\u201d<\/span>,<\/span> the photos showing the slides with the anti-Christian statement <\/span>can be traced back to a special party lecture that was held on April 22, 2019, by the Radio Management Bureau in <\/span>Hebi<\/span> City, Henan Province.<\/span> Zeng notes that in the lecture, the official <\/span>also <\/span>noted<\/span> th<\/span>e rapid expansion of Christianity, <\/span>citing claims of 70 million Protestant believers and 12 million Catholics<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”52502″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Representative Foley says even though those numbers are <\/span>likely low<\/span>, they rival the membership of China\u2019s Communist Party. \u201cMost scholars and experts estimate the total number of Christians in China could be as high as 130 million<\/span>, which far exceeds the official Communist Party Member count, which was reported as around 99 million in 2023<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]According to Zeng, t<\/span>he <\/span>Hebi<\/span> lecture <\/span>also <\/span>detailed the characteristics of Christianity\u2019s expansion, noting its \u201cbroad coverage, strong momentum, rapid growth, proactive offensive strategies, numerous unreasonable demands, and backing from foreign forces.\u201d These attributes were identified as posing significant ideological risks<\/span>, <\/span>according to <\/span>Zeng.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Voice of the Martyrs Korea and <\/span>ChinaAid<\/span> learned that<\/span> t<\/span>he official account of the <\/span>Hebi<\/span> Municipal Radio Management Bureau <\/span>reported<\/span> on <\/span>the lecture<\/span> with a statement that read:<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>I<\/span>n recent years, Christianity has been rampant and spreading in our country. To ensure that all party members correctly understand Christianity and prevent ideological deviations, this study session was organized and achieved effective results. On the morning of April 22, the <\/span>Hebi<\/span> Municipal Radio Management Bureau held a special party lecture titled \u2018The Great Threat of Christianity to the Security of the Chinese Nation,\u2019 which yielded very positive outcomes.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201c<\/span>During<\/span> the large-scale campaign to forcibly remove church crosses in Zhejiang from 2014 to 2016<\/span>, Chinese officials learned how quickly Christians disseminate news about persecution in China around the world,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>.<\/span> \u201cAs a result, they have <\/span>implemented strict measures to block information flow regarding <\/span>anti-Christian <\/span>campaigns and <\/span>actions<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]According to Representative Foley, the 2019 lecture in <\/span>Hebi<\/span> shows how seriously Christianity is viewed as a threat by China\u2019s Communist Party.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Hebi<\/span> is located in Henan province, where Christianity has been growing rapidly and where persecution has been especially severe since 2018,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cBut t<\/span>he attitude toward Christianity shown in the 2019 <\/span>Hebi<\/span> Municipal Radio Management Bureau lecture is not a local phenomenon<\/span>. <\/span>Since 2018, <\/span>countless<\/span> Christian gatherings <\/span>across all of <\/span>China\u2019s provinces<\/span> have been shut down<\/span>, including some of the largest churches in the country. <\/span>The involvement of the Municipal Radio Management Bureau <\/span>is <\/span>a<\/span>n example <\/span>reflection of local institutions serving national security interests<\/span>, and in China, the CCP continues to regard Christianity as a potential threat to national security<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
