According to her husband who was able to visit her in prison recently, Sister Li is in overall good health except for calcium deficiency and growing memory difficulties. [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that while the idea of Chinese Christians viewing imprisonment <\/span>and suffering for their faith <\/span>as a privilege may sound unusual or extreme to Christians in other parts of the world, it has biblical backing.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Acts 5:40-41, after the Apostles were beaten by the Jewish ruling council, scripture says they were \u2018<\/span>rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name<\/span>\u2019,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cThe Apostle Paul, who wrote many of his letters while in prison, said in Philippians 1:12 that his imprisonment \u2018<\/span>has <\/span>actually served<\/span> to advance the gospel<\/span>\u2019<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”50676″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says the gospel is advancing through Sister Li Yanping\u2019s imprisonment.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\u201cSister <\/span>Li<\/span>\u2019s husband, <\/span>Zhao <\/span>Chundan<\/span>,<\/span> says that even though his wife is not permitted to read the Bible in prison, and even though her memory loss has progressed to the point where she can no longer remember many scriptures, she is still preaching the gospel to her fellow prisoners,\u201d says <\/span>Representative<\/span> Foley. <\/span>She says that <\/span>seven or eight of <\/span>Sister Li\u2019s <\/span>cellmates <\/span>have <\/span>now <\/span>become believers.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]But Representative Foley says that <\/span>Christians in the rest of the world <\/span>should not romanticize or minimize the pain and suffering of Christians suffering for their faith<\/span> in prison<\/span>. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>The founding scripture verse of Voice of the Martyrs is Hebrews 13:3: <\/span>\u2018<\/span>Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering<\/span>\u2019<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> says Representative Foley. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>When Paul was in prison, he asked Timothy to come quickly and to bring his coat and his scrolls. <\/span>Everyone had left him, and no one was present to care for him. \u201c<\/span>Sister Li<\/span>\u2019s parents are <\/span>in their <\/span>80<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> says Representative F<\/span>o<\/span>ley. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>She <\/span>hopes that <\/span>the members of her church and her <\/span>family will <\/span>take on the roles <\/span>she would normally <\/span>fill <\/span>as their daughter<\/span> in caring for them<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> says Representative Foley<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that Christians around the world can help care for C<\/span>h<\/span>ristians in prison by praying for them as according to the scriptures, by writing them letters <\/span>when their prison addresses are <\/span>known and they are able to receive mail, <\/span>and <\/span>by <\/span>providing aid to them and their families through reputable organizations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Voice of the Martyrs Korea offers a free resource on ten biblical ways to pray for persecuted and imprisoned Christians at <\/span>www.vomkorea.com\/en\/prayer<\/span><\/a>. Representative Foley says that while Sister Li is not currently able to be listed, five other Chinese Christian prisoners are included, as well as Christian prisoners from Iran, Eritrea, and North Korea.
