\u201c<\/span>One family living in North Korea watched some Russian movies where people prayed and went to church and made the sign of the cross<\/span>, so t<\/span>he family modeled what they saw and learned how to pray from the movies<\/span>,\u201d says Voice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr<\/span>.<\/span> Hyun Sook Foley<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]According to Dr<\/span>.<\/span> Foley, the family said they did not know <\/span>to <\/span>who<\/span>m<\/span> they were praying.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>One of the family members <\/span>then <\/span>went to China and heard the gospel preached by somebody they met<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>The family member asked to be taken to a church<\/span>, just as they had seen in the movie<\/span>s<\/span>. There <\/span>they were able to learn about the basics of the faith, the Apostle\u2019s Creed, and forgiveness.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that the family member then returned to North Korea <\/span>to share what they learned with their family.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The letter was one of several recently received from underground Christians in North Korea, according to Representative Foley. Her organization, <\/span>Voice of the Martyrs Korea<\/span>,<\/span> distributes 40,000 to 50,000 North Korean dialect Bibles a year in print and electronic formats to North Korean<\/span>s inside North Korea, as well as to North Korean sex-trafficked women in China and North Koreans sent to work abroad by the North Korean government. <\/span>She <\/span>says that North Koreans who receive the Bibles sometimes send back notes of thanks through the organization\u2019s contacts<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”48602″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][vc_custom_heading text=”Bibles and small personal gift items sent to North Koreans through Voice of the Martyrs Korea\u2019s distribution network.” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%23000000|line_height:1.45em” google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Representative Foley shared the contents of three additional letters from underground North Korean Christians inside North Korea. \u201cThis is something that we feel as we live in the world of humans, but this world is a lump of sin. \u201cThe Lord has opened a great door of salvation to our lives but there are so many lives who are dying because they do not know this blessed news. The Lord has called us first for this work. In Matthew 28:19-20, He said \u201cTherefore, you go and make disciples of all peoples, give them baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and teach them to keep all of the things I have commanded you. Behold, I am always with you to the last day of the world.\u201d He said that the gospel will be testified to and in doing so He will always be together to the last day of the world.\u201d \u2013 Underground NK Christian C<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”48600″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][vc_custom_heading text=”Voice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr. Hyun Sook Foley, meets with one of our partners who helps to distribute NK dialect Bibles. ” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%23000000|line_height:1.45em” google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says she believes the letters reflect a growing knowledge of the Bible and biblical themes among North Korean underground believers <\/span>as well as other <\/span>North Koreans. <\/span>She says the Bible is growing in its impact on North Korea\u2014something she believes that independent surveys are also confirming.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\u201c<\/span><\/span>The North Korean Human Rights <\/span>Information Center<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, an independent data-gathering NGO, has been conducting an ongoing study where they found that in the year 2000, effectively 0% of people inside North Korea had ever seen a Bible with their own eyes<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>They have continued to update that study, and at the end of 2020 they determined that around 8% of people inside of North Korea have now seen a Bible with their own eyes.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]She says that number is likely to have increased even further during the COVID pandemic. \u201cThe requests for Bibles from North Koreans outside of South Korea doubled each year during the pandemic,\u201d she says. <\/span>Her organization does not disclose information about the means used to receive and fulfill <\/span>the <\/span>requests <\/span>they receive <\/span>for Bibles, <\/span>citing concerns for the <\/span>safety of Bible couriers and recipients. \u201c<\/span>A<\/span>nyone bringing the Bible into North Korea from any country in any format, whether printed or electronic, using any means of distribution, remains <\/span>at risk of <\/span>prosecution<\/span>, imprisonment, and even death<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says her organization publishes select letters from North Korean Bible recipients in order to help Christians outside of North Korea understand the <\/span>impact<\/span> the Bible is <\/span>having <\/span>today inside of North Korea. <\/span>\u201cToday is the day for gospel ministry to North Korea,\u201d she says. \u201c<\/span>The Bible is continuing to get inside North Korea today, and more North Koreans are reading it and being transformed by it <\/span>today <\/span>than literally any other time in history.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Individuals or churches interested in supporting Voice of the Martyrs Korea\u2019s North Korea ministry can make a donation at <\/span>www.vomkorea.com\/en\/donate<\/a><\/span> or wire transfer to:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
