\u201c<\/span>Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province where <\/span>Early Rain Church is located, has been having an especially cold winter this year,\u201d says Voice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr<\/span>.<\/span> Hyun Sook Foley. \u201cThe guards have to sit outside in the freezing cold even overnight, and they are not provided warm clothing by the authorities.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that Dai and members of Early Rain Church provide<\/span> hot water, clothes, and quilts to the guards.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\u201c<\/span>This is common in Early Rain and other <\/span>Chinese <\/span>churches<\/span> under government pressure<\/span>\u2014they actively pray for their persecutors<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>. <\/span>\u201cDai himself says<\/span>, \u2018Thank the Lord that the One with us commands more than the ones with the CCP<\/span> [China Communist Party]<\/span>.<\/span> Pray for the Lord to have mercy on those persecuting us.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”45822″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]According to Representative Foley, when authorities <\/span>learned about th<\/span>e acts of kindness being shown to the guards by Dai and the church members, they began <\/span>transferring the guards <\/span>to other <\/span>assignments.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The church Dai helps lead, <\/span>Early Rain <\/span>Covenant <\/span>Church<\/span>, has experienced a series of raids and detainments of key church leaders by authorities since <\/span>the arrest of Senior Pastor Wang Yi and more than 100 <\/span>church members <\/span>on December 9, 2018. Pastor Wang Yi was sentenced on December 30, 2019 to nine years in prison by the Chengdu Intermediate People’s Court for inciting subversion of state power and illegal business operations.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\u201cDai himself has become a more frequent target of police action,\u201d says Representative Foley. Voice of the <\/span>Martyrs<\/span> Korea reported in <\/span>May <\/span>2021 how police officers assaulted Dai when he and another Early Rain Church leader were <\/span>attempting to bring food<\/span> to a church member being questioned at the police station. \u201cDai was <\/span>angrily punched and kicked by a plainclothes officer, but he described the whole experience as \u2018a great spiritual exercise\u2019<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley says Dai\u2019s <\/span>family <\/span>has been under <\/span>constant haras<\/span>sment<\/span> during the <\/span>past <\/span>year. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Plain-clothed officers vandalized their doors with threats and jammed obstructions into their keyholes several times<\/span>,\u201d she says. <\/span>Dai\u2019s <\/span>other <\/span>family <\/span>members are allowed to leave the house, <\/span>go to school, <\/span>and<\/span> shop for groceries<\/span>, but Dai himself is a prisoner in his own home<\/span>. <\/span>Dai<\/span> wrote about his experience in a social media post:<\/span> \u201cI pray God to strengthen me and help me to fight the war. I believe God is in charge. Although I will face much more harassment and disturbance in my life, I pray to God to be our help.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
