[vc_section][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”43781″ img_size=”full”][vc_custom_heading text=”The Public Security Bureau in Sichuan Province\u2019s Gulin County arrested Wenzhou Christian Lin Xuesui and charged him with “organizing and financing illegal gatherings“ for attending a Sunday church gathering on June 14 and sharing his testimony in the remote mountainous region, according to Voice of the Martyrs Korea.” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:1.2em|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” el_class=”headline”][vc_column_text]Voice of the Martyrs Korea notes that t<\/span>wo other Christians <\/span>who <\/span>were arrested at the same time as Lin <\/span>Xuesui<\/span> were<\/span> temporarily <\/span>detained on the same charges<\/span> but were released on bail pending trial. <\/span>Lin <\/span>Xuesui<\/span> remains in custody<\/span> at the Gulin Detention Center<\/span>, according to the report<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]According to Voice of the Martyrs Korea <\/span>Representative Dr<\/span>.<\/span> Hyun Sook Foley, <\/span>Lin <\/span>Xuesui<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> wife,<\/span> Li <\/span>Chunqing<\/span>,<\/span> issued a public letter<\/span> August 20, <\/span>calling on Christians around the world to pray for <\/span>God to lead and strengthen <\/span>her husband<\/span> during his imprisonment<\/span>, and to fill him with peace and joy<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Li <\/span>Chunqing<\/span> says <\/span>that <\/span>authorities have portrayed her husband as <\/span>a \u2018socially dangerous\u2019 criminal, which she says is \u2018simply nonsense\u2019,\u201d according to Representative Foley. \u201cShe <\/span>describes her husband as an ordinary Christian <\/span>who was carrying out his \u2018fundamental Christian responsibility\u2019<\/span> by responding to an invitation from <\/span>other Christians <\/span>to <\/span>visit <\/span>Gulin county<\/span> and then shar<\/span>e<\/span> his testimony there when he saw <\/span>how few local residents had heard <\/span>the Gospel.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_single_image image=”43777″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]According to Representative Foley, <\/span>Christians around the world should <\/span>give <\/span>special attention to the arrest of Lin <\/span>Xuesui<\/span>. \u201c<\/span>M<\/span>ost of the time, Christians and <\/span>media <\/span>around the world <\/span>pay attention when the Chinese government <\/span>raids <\/span>or removes a cross from the building of <\/span>a <\/span>famous <\/span>Chinese <\/span>megachurch<\/span>,<\/span> or <\/span>when <\/span>Chinese police <\/span>arrest a <\/span>high-profile<\/span> pastor in <\/span>one of <\/span>the large <\/span>Chinese cities,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cBut the <\/span>arrest and imprisonment <\/span>of <\/span>Lin <\/span>Xuesui<\/span> shows that the Chinese government <\/span>is afraid of <\/span>even <\/span>one <\/span>ordinary Christian do<\/span>ing<\/span> ordinary <\/span>Christian activities in <\/span>a <\/span>remote<\/span>, unpopulated<\/span> area<\/span> of China<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley <\/span>says that <\/span>Chinese <\/span>authorities <\/span>erroneously quote <\/span>scriptures like Romans 13:1 and 1 Peter 2:13-15 to claim that <\/span>the Bible requires <\/span>Christians<\/span> to obey <\/span>all of <\/span>the Communist Party<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> restrictions <\/span>and regulations governing <\/span>religious activities. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Christians should expose this as unbiblical teaching<\/span>,\u201d she says<\/span>. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>God has not delegated the oversight of his church to <\/span>any <\/span>government. He continues to lead and guide his church directly. <\/span>We should remember that Paul, who wrote Romans 13, <\/span>was beheaded by the government, and Peter was crucified upside down. Both were executed as criminals because they taught people to follow Jesus, who was also executed as a common criminal.<\/span> So as Christians we should not turn to the government to guide and direct our religious life. <\/span>We should turn only to God.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Representative Foley adds, \u201cW<\/span>hen authorities<\/span> punish us for <\/span>our obedience <\/span>to God, yes, we are required to submit to that punishment\u2014not because we have done wrong, but because <\/span>we <\/span>Christians are commanded to <\/span>leave all <\/span>judgment and <\/span>vengeance to the Lord. The Bible shows that whoever judges <\/span>or persecutes <\/span>Jesus\u2019 faithful witnesses <\/span>only <\/span>ends up<\/span> judg<\/span>ing<\/span> themselves<\/span>, and they <\/span>will face eternal consequences for th<\/span>eir actions<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
