A young woman next to me was closing her eyes, folding her hands, and praying to God. The police yelled, &#8216;You dog, you are praying!&#8217; They beat her and sent her to a prison camp. So,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW124868173 BCX8\">many South Korean Christians<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW124868173 BCX8\">and North Korean defectors conclude<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW124868173 BCX8\">, \u2018Therefore, there must be no church in North Korea.\u2019<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW124868173 BCX8\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">Representative Foley says other studies are\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">also confirming what Voice of the Martyrs Korea\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">hears from its students<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">: A growing number of North Koreans are being exposed to Christianity while still inside of North Korea. \u201c<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">The North Korean Human Rights Database, an independent data-gathering NGO,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">has been conducting\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">a<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">n ongoing<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">\u00a0study where they found that in the year 2000, effectively 0% of people inside North Korea had ever seen a Bible with their own eyes. They have continued to update that study, and at the end of 2020 they determined that around 8% of people inside of North Korea have now seen a Bible with their own eyes.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">\u00a0In a different study released in June<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">Center for the Study of Global Christianity (CSGC) at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">\u00a0estimat<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">ed<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW261535669 BCX8\">\u00a0that more than 6% of North Koreans inside North Korea have had personal contact with a Christian.\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW261535669 BCX8\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<span class=\"TextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">But\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">Representative Foley says that\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">it is\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">the detailed interviews with North Korean defectors that\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">reveal\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">the most\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">important\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">information about the source and characteristics of the Christian faith inside North Korea<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">. \u201c<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">Most of the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">North Korean\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">Christians\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">our defector students met inside of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">North\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">Korea didn\u2019t become Christian\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">as a result of<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">Sout<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">h<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">\u00a0Korean missionaries or\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">through\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">the North Korean government\u2019s purported \u2018<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">state church<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">es\u2019<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW91680941 BCX8\">. Sometimes\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW168883347 BCX8\">I\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW168883347 BCX8\">saw her make the sign of the cross.
