\u201c<\/span>Two men were at the door<\/span>,\u201d says Voice of the Martyrs Representative Dr<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Hyun Sook Foley<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>James\u00a0<\/span>recognized the\u00a0<\/span>men<\/span>\u00a0as FARC soldiers who had arrived in the community two weeks previously<\/span>. James had made friendly small talk with them on several occasions. Now they asked for his help with\u00a0<\/span>engine problems they were having with\u00a0<\/span>their motorcycle.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that\u00a0<\/span>James\u00a0<\/span>walked out to the motorcycle in front of the house with\u00a0<\/span>one of the men, while the other stayed by the door with Rocio.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cThe man asked her<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>\u2018<\/span>Is your name Maria?<\/span>\u2019 She replied, \u2018<\/span>No,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019m Rocio Pino.<\/span>\u2019<\/span>\u00a0The man then shot her three times.<\/span>\u201d Representative Foley says that w<\/span>hile James attended to his wife, the attackers jumped on their motorcycle and sped away.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”37234″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_custom_heading text=”The Red Zones of Colombia where Rocio Pino was martyred are controlled by the Marxist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%230a0a0a|line_height:1.45em” google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>The road to\u00a0<\/span>the Pinos\u2019\u00a0<\/span>village had been heavily mined and\u00a0<\/span>was\u00a0<\/span>guarded by FARC guerrillas, so no emergency services could respond to help her<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Rocio\u2019s husband and children were left to watch Rocio die.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to Representative Foley,\u00a0<\/span>James later learned that\u00a0<\/span>Rocio<\/span>\u2019s murder had been in\u00a0<\/span>retaliation for her\u00a0<\/span>evangelism of a\u00a0<\/span>young\u00a0<\/span>female\u00a0<\/span>FARC guerrilla<\/span>\u00a0fighter<\/span>\u00a0a few weeks\u00a0<\/span>earlier<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>The woman had\u00a0<\/span>stopped by Rocio\u2019s house, and Rocio shared the gospel with her.\u00a0<\/span>She told the young woman, \u2018<\/span>The Lord is waiting for you<\/span>\u2019 and gave her a New<\/span>\u00a0Testament.<\/span>\u00a0That encounter drew the\u00a0<\/span>attention of the\u00a0<\/span>local FARC\u00a0<\/span>leaders<\/span>, who then sent the assassins to the Pinos\u2019 home<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201c<\/span>Rocio Pino was known for sharing the gospel wherever she went<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>. \u201c<\/span>She and her husband\u00a0<\/span>chose to live\u00a0<\/span>with their children\u00a0<\/span>and share the gospel in a dangerous area of Colombia because they took Jesus\u2019 Great Commission seriously. Though it cost Rocio her life, her Christian witness amid\u00a0<\/span>communist\u00a0<\/span>oppression and violence was worthy of Christ and advanced His kingdom.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cHonoring Rocio Pino is especially appropriate\u00a0<\/span>on the Day of the Christian Martyr\u00a0<\/span>because it reminds us that most martyrs are not pastors, missionaries,\u00a0<\/span>or famous\u00a0<\/span>people<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cLike Rocio, they are\u00a0<\/span>simply\u00a0<\/span>ordinary Christian<\/span>\u00a0men and women\u00a0<\/span>who maintain a faithful witness to Christ in the homes and neighborhoods where they live.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Rocio was known for saying, \u2018<\/span>All who come here will hear about Christ<\/span>\u2019. She lost her life keeping that promise, so we know she will find it unto eternal life.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley says\u00a0<\/span>James\u00a0<\/span>Pino\u00a0<\/span>and his daughters relocated to a safer area<\/span>\u00a0after Rocio\u2019s death<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>James struggles with forgiving those who killed his wife<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley.<\/span>\u00a0\u201c<\/span>He<\/span>\u00a0says that the scars on his heart are permanen<\/span>t.\u00a0<\/span>But he continues to\u00a0<\/span>work toward forgiveness, and an important part of the Day of the Christian Martyr is praying for the survivors, that they may forgive\u00a0<\/span>and also<\/span>\u00a0find\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>peace and the strength\u00a0<\/span>in Christ\u00a0<\/span>to go on.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Previous honorees on the Day of the Christian martyr include\u00a0<\/span>North Korean underground Christian Cha Deok Sun who was martyred\u00a0<\/span>between 2005-2010<\/span>, and the so-called \u201cunknown martyrs of communism\u201d:\u00a0<\/span>Christians who died under communist rule from 19<\/span>21<\/span>\u00a0to the present, which Voice of the Martyrs Korea and other analysts estimate to be\u00a0<\/span>between\u00a0<\/span>25 to 30 million<\/span>\u00a0people. \u201cIt is no coincidence that all of our recent honorees were\u00a0<\/span>martyred at the hands of\u00a0<\/span>communists,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cCommunism is not dead, and it continues to attack Christians today in the five remaining communist countries\u2014China, North Korea,\u00a0<\/span>Vietnam, Cuba, and\u00a0<\/span>Laos\u2014as well as in communist-controlled areas, like the Red Zones of Colombia where Rocio was killed by the FARC.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that those who are interested in\u00a0making a\u00a0donation\u00a0in honor of Rocio Pino to support families of Colombia martyrs and the evangelistic outreach of Christians in Colombia\u2019s Red Zones can\u00a0give through the end of July to the ministry\u2019s\u00a0Families\u00a0of\u00a0Martyrs and Prisoners\u00a0fund.\u00a0Donations can be made online\u00a0at\u00a0<\/span>www.vomkorea.com\/en\/donation<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0or via electronic transfer to:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
