\u201c<\/span>Nguyen Thanh and her husband have dedicated their lives to advancing God\u2019s kingdom among remote villages throughout Vietnam<\/span>,\u201d says Voice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Hyun Sook Foley<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>During their ministry, they have experienced persecution, being beaten and detained for preaching the gospel to many different tribal groups.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”37142″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_custom_heading text=”In Vietnam, Christian persecution is most severe in the remote tribal areas.” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:13px|text_align:center|color:%230a0a0a|line_height:1.45em” google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While Christianity is legal<\/span>\u00a0in Vietnam<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Representative Foley says that\u00a0<\/span>l<\/span>ocal authorities persecute Christians in rural areas, and Christian converts are also persecuted by family members.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Minority tribal groups, such as the Hmong, typically face the most violent and harsh forms of persecution<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBut c<\/span>hurches continue to grow despite persecution.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that<\/span>\u00a0Nguyen\u00a0<\/span>Thanh\u00a0<\/span>was\u00a0<\/span>originally\u00a0<\/span>diagnosed with cancer in 2011<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>After\u00a0<\/span>a period of remission, h<\/span>er cancer\u00a0<\/span>returned\u00a0<\/span>in 2020<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cThis\u00a0<\/span>requir<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0a complicated surgical procedure and hospitalization.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Representative Foley says that b<\/span>ecause of\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>oronavirus protocols, she was required to stay at the hospital for an extended amount of time.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>During her stay, she shared the gospel with more than 100 patients, and 32 have responded in faith<\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>She has also been teaching the Bible to the new believers, and many of them have returned home and are sharing the gospel in their communities. Pray for these believers to continue growing in their faith.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Pray also for Nguyen and her husband, thanking God for their faithful witness to Christ and asking for their material and physical needs to be met as she continues to recover.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Voice of the Martyrs Korea classifies\u00a0<\/span>Vietnam\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>s one of five remaining Communist nations in the world, including\u00a0<\/span>also\u00a0<\/span>China, North Korea, Laos, and Cuba.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cEach of these nations, including Vietnam, maintains strict laws against religion,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201c<\/span>In Vietnam, n<\/span>ew Christians are often evicted from their homes and villages, especially in\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>tribal areas where local authorities exercise broad discretion.<\/span>\u201d Representative Foley says that o<\/span>fficially recognized churches are expected to report their activities and teachings to the government.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>All churches face government opposition when they evangelize outside church walls or attempt to conduct community event<\/span>s<\/span>. Non-recognized churches, which cannot be officially registered, are in violation of the law. Within rural and tribal areas, existing believers can often meet openly, but new believers are targeted for harsh persecution. Christians are often denied social services, utilities and schooling in an attempt to pressure them to reject Christianity.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
