Representative Foley says that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chengdu state security department officials dispatched police vehicles to the place the elderly man lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/span>Officers stake out this area 24 hours each day trying to intimidate pastors and bar them from baptizing Ms. Liu\u2019s father<\/span><\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201cThese are the same tactics they have used in Chengdu\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to sabotage the ministry of E<\/span><\/span>arly Rain C<\/span><\/span>ovenant<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Church, whose pastor, Wang Yi, was sentenced to nine years in prison last December.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley says that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Ms. Liu<\/span><\/span>\u2019s father\u00a0<\/span><\/span>followed the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) most of his life.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/span>He watched China Central Television (CCTV), a Chinese public service broadcast, every day<\/span><\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/span>He read the Party\u2019s newspaper and would become angry if he heard someone criticize the CCP.<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley says that now, after years of<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>criticizing\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the Christian faith<\/span><\/span>, Ms. Liu\u2019s father has decided to follow Jesus<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u201c<\/span><\/span>In the past few years,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>he<\/span><\/span>\u00a0began to change as he became ill with a debilitating disease. Now, he\u00a0<\/span><\/span>has to<\/span><\/span>\u00a0lie in bed each day. During this difficult time for Ms. Liu\u2019s father,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>members of Early Rain C<\/span><\/span>ovenant<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Church have\u00a0<\/span><\/span>regularly visit<\/span><\/span>ed him\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and s<\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span>ng hymns for him. In response, he cried and said that he wants to be a Christian. He hopes to follow Jesus in baptism.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>At this point, however, the<\/span><\/span>re are\u00a0<\/span><\/span>police stationed at the door of his home every day<\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201c<\/span><\/span>The goal is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to intimidate pastors<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and other Christian workers<\/span><\/span>. Chinese Christians know that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>this is the police\u2019s way of sending the message: \u2018<\/span><\/span>If you try to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>baptize this man, you\u2019re going to be detained.<\/span><\/span>\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley says Voice of the Martyrs Korea is calling for concentrated intercession for\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Ms. Liu\u2019s father<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and for the Christian workers seeking to reach him<\/span><\/span>. \u201cWe need to pray that the Lord will enable\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Ms. Liu\u2019s father<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to be baptized. We need to pray for the Christian workers there<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to be\u00a0<\/span><\/span>made wise and bold<\/span><\/span>\u00a0for this task. Christian faith is becoming more and more personally costly in China. We must be willing to bear that cost with them.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
