\u201c<\/span><\/span>People might think that the Coronavirus would reduce the demand for Bibles among North Koreans, but<\/span><\/span>\u00a0we saw exactly the opposite reaction<\/span><\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201c<\/span><\/span>T<\/span><\/span>his year we have\u00a0<\/span><\/span>already\u00a0<\/span><\/span>distributed more\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chosun<\/span><\/span>\u00a0audio and print Bibles than in any other year in our ministry\u2019s history<\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley attributes the increase in demand to North Koreans\u2019 search for hope<\/span>\u00a0during the pandemic<\/span>. \u201c<\/span>Everywhere we\u00a0<\/span>serve\u00a0<\/span>North Koreans<\/span>, we f<\/span>ind<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>them<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>asking deep questions about life and death<\/span>\u00a0these days<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Even when we distributed masks or medicines with the Bibles, North Koreans always\u00a0<\/span>thanked us mainly for\u00a0<\/span>the Bibles,\u201d says Representative Foley.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Representative Foley said that\u00a0<\/span>the increas<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0demand caused Voice of the Martyrs Korea to\u00a0<\/span>accelerate\u00a0<\/span>its recording schedule\u00a0<\/span>in order to<\/span>\u00a0complete the\u00a0<\/span>whole\u00a0<\/span>Chosun<\/span>\u00a0Bible on audio. \u201cIt was a project we began more than ten years ago with\u00a0<\/span>Faith Comes\u00a0<\/span>By<\/span>\u00a0Hearing, an American NGO specializing in dramatized word-for-word recordings of the Bible. We recruited\u00a0<\/span>North Korean<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0as the voices and\u00a0<\/span>record<\/span>ed the\u00a0<\/span>Chosun<\/span>\u00a0Bible New Testament. We got that into the field right away, and since then we have recorded more and more of the Old Testament whenever possible. This year<\/span>, the Faith Comes\u00a0<\/span>By<\/span>\u00a0Hearing recording team really got stuck here due to the Coronavirus. We saw that as a sign from the Lord that it was time to complete the recording,\u00a0<\/span>so we did.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that Voice of the Martyrs Korea airs the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chosun<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Bible on its five True Voice of Martyrs radio broadcasts on shortwave and AM radio. It also distributes the recording on SD card and MP3\/4\/5 players wherever North Koreans are found.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that Voice of the Martyrs Korea makes the audio players and printed Bibles available for free to North Koreans and to qualifying ministries and churches serving North Koreans.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The printed\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chosun<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Bibles are also available for purchase through the Voice of the Martyrs Korea website and by phone order.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Representative Foley says\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>while\u00a0<\/span><\/span>she believes\u00a0<\/span><\/span>it is important to distribute the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chosun<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Bible to North Koreans in places where the Bible is illegal, she says it is also important to distribute it to North Korean defectors in South Korea. \u201c<\/span><\/span>Literally every week we meet North Koreans who have been going to church in South Korea for years but who do not understand even the basics of Christianity because they simply can\u2019t understand any of the South Korean versions of the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Bible\u2014even the easy-to-read versions,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cSeveral years\u00a0<\/span><\/span>ago<\/span><\/span>\u00a0CGN-TV did a survey of North Korean defectors and asked them which Bible they preferred to read. The\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chosun<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Bible was\u00a0<\/span><\/span>their first choice.\u201d Representative Foley says that South Koreans also tell her they prefer the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chosun<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Bible. \u201cIt\u2019s easy to read but also accurate,\u201d she says. \u201cThe dramatized audio version is also very powerful.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
