\u201cToday 260 million Christians<\/span><\/span>\u2014a<\/span><\/span>bout\u00a0<\/span><\/span>10% of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the global Christian population<\/span><\/span>\u2014face\u00a0<\/span><\/span>intense persecution for their faith<\/span><\/span>,\u201d says Voice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Hyun Sook Foley<\/span><\/span>, citing statistics from the World Evangelical Association<\/span><\/span>\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Religious Liberty Commission<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/span>In 2020, on average every day 8 Christians were killed for their faith; 10 Christians were detained or imprisoned; 25 churches or Christian buildings were attacked.<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley says that the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(IDOP)\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is a direct response to the most common request made by persecuted Christians.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201cWhen we ask persecuted Christians how we can help them, the first thing they say is \u2018Pray for us!<\/span><\/span>\u2019<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0says\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Representative Foley<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201cThat is exactly what happens on the two IDOP Sundays annually: The church around the world\u00a0<\/span><\/span>joins together in prayer for their persecuted brothers and sisters.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
