\u201cIn Hebrews 13:3, we are commanded to remember those\u00a0<\/span><\/span>who are\u00a0<\/span><\/span>imprisoned\u00a0<\/span><\/span>because of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>their faith in the Lord Jesus,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201c<\/span><\/span>We may not be able to visit them in the foreign prisons where they are held, but we\u00a0<\/span><\/span>can certainly write them a letter letting them know we are praying for them and that they are not forgotten.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0That is especially important during this time of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>extreme\u00a0<\/span><\/span>isolation\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for prisoners\u00a0<\/span><\/span>due to the Coronavirus.<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Among the 14 prisoners are\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chinese Pastors Wang Yi and John Cao, several pastors and church leaders from Eritrea,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a Pakistani Christian sentenced to life in prison for alleged acts against the Quran, and Korean Chinese Deacon Jang Moon Seok,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>who is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>currently\u00a0<\/span><\/span>serving a 15 year sentence\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in North Korea\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for his ministry to North Korean<\/span><\/span>s visiting\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Changbai<\/span><\/span>, China.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span><\/span>In some of these countries, international mail service has been temporarily halted due to the Coronavirus,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cBut we are asking Christians to continue to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>prepare letters even for the prisoners in these countries so that as soon as mail service is reinstated, they can receive a large number of letters to encourage them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Represent<\/span><\/span>at<\/span><\/span>ive Foley says that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Christian prisoners and former prisoners regularly cite\u00a0<\/span><\/span>receiving\u00a0<\/span><\/span>letters from\u00a0<\/span><\/span>around the world as one of their greatest sources of encouragement while imprisoned. She\u00a0<\/span><\/span>cites\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Voice of the Martyrs Korea<\/span><\/span>\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>first\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201cprisoner alert\u201d letter writing campaign<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in 2002<\/span><\/span>, for a North Korean defector imprisoned in China\u00a0<\/span><\/span>who was\u00a0<\/span><\/span>threatened with repatriation to North Korea.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Early in his imprisonment,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that prisoner, identified\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for safety as \u201cMr.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Kim<\/span><\/span>\u201d,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>started receiving letters from concerned Christians\u00a0<\/span><\/span>from around the world\u00a0<\/span><\/span>every two months<\/span><\/span>, due to Voice of the Martyrs Korea\u2019s \u201cprisoner alert\u201d campaign<\/span><\/span>. \u201cMr Kim said the letters\u00a0<\/span><\/span>g<\/span><\/span>ave<\/span><\/span>\u00a0him encouragement and a sense of fellowship with the global church during his 10 year-sentence<\/span><\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201cMiraculously, he was not sent back to North Korea. We believe the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>constant stream of letters is one of the main reasons why, because it showed Chinese officials that Christians around the world were paying close attention to the treatment of Mr. Kim.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
