\u201cOdisha State<\/span><\/span>, formerly known as Orissa,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>has long been a hotbed of anti-Christian violence,\u201d says Voice of the Martyrs Korea Representative Dr. Hyun Sook Foley. \u201cTwelve years ago\u00a0<\/span><\/span>more than\u00a0<\/span><\/span>100<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Christians were killed and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>3<\/span><\/span>00<\/span><\/span>\u00a0churches destroyed<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>as the result of a public campaign to strengthen Hindu nationalism and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0raise suspicions against Christians<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Most of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>those committing acts of violence were either never arrested by police or they were acquitted by the courts.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Now\u00a0<\/span><\/span>police\u00a0<\/span><\/span>are attempting to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>blame the death of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Samaru\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Madkami<\/span><\/span>\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span><\/span>baseless\u00a0<\/span><\/span>suspicions about his father<\/span><\/span>\u00a0rather than admitting that anti-Christian violence\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is on the rise again<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>It is important for the general public, and especially\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Christians around the world, to be aware\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of this pattern of blame shifting\u00a0<\/span><\/span>because\u00a0<\/span><\/span>it can\u00a0<\/span><\/span>rapidly escalate to the level of violence against Christians that happened\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in Odisha\u00a0<\/span><\/span>twelve years ago.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Voice of the Martyrs Korea has been\u00a0<\/span><\/span>working in partnership with a local\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Indian\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Christian\u00a0<\/span><\/span>NGO to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>provide financial aid\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and general support\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for Samaru\u2019s family and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>two\u00a0<\/span><\/span>other\u00a0<\/span><\/span>related\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Christian families\u00a0<\/span><\/span>who\u00a0<\/span><\/span>were forced to flee from the<\/span><\/span>ir<\/span><\/span>\u00a0village\u00a0<\/span><\/span>due to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Samaru\u2019s death.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Representative Foley says that the families are frightened to return home\u00a0<\/span><\/span>three months after the attack\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and have been resettled in another location for their safety.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Voice of the Martyrs Korea also supports 23\u00a0<\/span><\/span>orphans\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in Odisha State\u00a0<\/span><\/span>who<\/span><\/span>se parents<\/span><\/span>\u00a0were victims\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of the earlier wave of violence against Christians.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Bishop Dr<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0P.R.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Parichha<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>President\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of the Odisha State chapter of the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0All India Christian Council,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>was the one who\u00a0<\/span><\/span>had requested a police\u00a0<\/span><\/span>investigation\u00a0<\/span><\/span>into the death of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mr<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Madkami<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Dr.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Parichha<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>told Christian Solidarity Worldwide, a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Christian human rights organization based in the UK<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201cWhile the Deputy Inspector General of Police has acknowledged in his response letter that Samaru was brutally murdered, I am disappointed with their opinion that the death of the minor was a result of vengeance for sorcery. The\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Madkami<\/span><\/span>\u00a0family do not practice such things. His father is a pastor. Why weren\u2019t the cases of the 16 people who died ever reported to the police or the matter investigated sooner? What proof is there? There are so many gaps in the claim by the accused persons. It is unfounded, biased and misleading. The police should not deviate from the root cause of the murder of Samaru.<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
