According to Representative Foley,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Fan\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Ruzhen<\/span><\/span>\u00a0began homeschooling her children several years ago\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>provide them with a Christian education.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/span>On Sept. 30, 2019, authorities filed a lawsuit\u00a0<\/span><\/span>against her, arguing she must send her children to public school for an atheistic education<\/span><\/span>,\u201d says Representative Foley.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fan fought the ruling, bringing it to the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Behai<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Intermediate People\u2019s Court.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

On July 22, the Beihai Intermediate People\u2019s Court\u00a0<\/span><\/span>upheld the original ruling.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/span>The\u00a0<\/span><\/span>court said\u00a0<\/span><\/span>there is no contradiction between faith and the public education system<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Foley says.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0R<\/span><\/span>epresentative Foley added, \u201cI<\/span><\/span>n China, it is illegal for parents or teachers to teach religion to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>children under the age of 18. Instead, children must attend atheistic, pro-Communist Party schools.<\/span><\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
