\u201c<\/span><\/span>The biggest worry\u00a0<\/span><\/span>today\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for North Korean women in Northeast China is not Coronavirus but starvation,\u201d says Representative Foley.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/span>Now even in the smallest markets and towns,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in order to purchase food,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>ID cards are required<\/span><\/span>. Of course<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the North Korean women don’t have<\/span><\/span>\u00a0ID cards because they were sex-trafficked to China illegally.<\/span><\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that North Korean women living alone\u00a0<\/span><\/span>there are especially at risk. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the women\u2019s husbands have died or abandoned them<\/span><\/span>, or they have escaped abusive situations,\u201d says Representative Foley. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSince ID cards are now required for food purchase, they cannot buy food to eat. They<\/span><\/span>\u00a0have no relatives who are legally able to purchase food for them.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0If they go to the market without ID cards, they can be reported and sent back to North Korea, where they will be severely punished.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Representative Foley<\/span><\/span>\u00a0says that Voice of the Martyrs Korea anticipated the possible lockdown and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>has so far\u00a0<\/span><\/span>purchased a 7<\/span><\/span>–<\/span><\/span>month supply of food for 13 North Korean women\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and their families. But Representative Foley sa<\/span><\/span>ys<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that the number of North Korean women in the area is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>far greater. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are hundreds of sex-trafficked North Korean women in Jilin Province. They are spread all over the countryside, in very isolated areas,\u201d says Foley. \u201cThey have no one to turn to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for help even when times are good. Now, under these lockdown conditions, they need all the prayers and assistance we can offer.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201c<\/span><\/span>North Korean<\/span><\/span>\u00a0women are sold to impoverished Chinese men living in poor conditions,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>R<\/span><\/span>epresentative Foley explains. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBecause they are not living in China legally and the men who bought them are\u00a0<\/span>afraid<\/span>\u00a0they may be returned to North Korea if caught, these women are often\u00a0<\/span><\/span>hidden\u00a0<\/span><\/span>completely from public view. They are especially susceptible to the Coronavirus because they do not receive medical care or protection.<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Representative Foley says that is why Voice of the Martyrs Korea also sent masks, medicine, and other supplies to the women in the area<\/span><\/span>, including audio Bibles<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u201cFood and masks and medicine are helpful for their health, but only the word of God can bring them hope,\u201d says Representative Foley. \u201c<\/span><\/span>We know the North Korean sex-trafficked women really appreciate the food and supplies we are sending, but it is always the audio Bibles that they thank us for specifically.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201c13 families\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span> just a drop in the bucket,\u201d <\/span><\/span>says Representative Foley.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cWe need to do more, as quickly as possible<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Last time we sent\u00a0<\/span>aid,<\/span>\u00a0we were able to get it in the day before deliveries were stopped. We need to pray that deliveries remain possible in this area, and that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>we can reach as many of these North Korean sex-trafficked women as possible, providing what is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>needed for the<\/span><\/span>ir<\/span><\/span>\u00a0physical and spiritual health<\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Representative Foley says that 1,000 CNY (roughly 173,000 KRW) can provide the basic<\/span>\u00a0staples needed for one of these families to feed itself for the next seven months.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>W<\/span>hatever funds are raised in this emergency appeal, w<\/span>e will use<\/span>\u00a0to provide\u00a0<\/span>food, care<\/span>\u00a0items<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and Christian discipleship resources<\/span>\u00a0for the North Korean sex-trafficked women in Northeast China and their families<\/span>,\u201d <\/span>representative Foley explains.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
