One insurgent attacked Danjuma with a machete, slicing through the left side of his head, cutting his left arm, and removing his genitals.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause his wounds were so severe, the villagers assumed Danjuma was dead,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThey began digging a grave for him but stopped when he began crying and screaming.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Danjuma was driven to the closest hospital 25km away. The hospital manager Hadila Adamu was amazed that Danjuma survived the attack. \u201cHe bled so much,\u201d Adamu says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that he survived is a miracle. That\u2019s why he often refers to himself as \u2018Miracle\u2019.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Although Danjuma survived the attack, he lost one eye and is blind in the other. He has to wear a catheter and is dependent on family members for daily care. \u201cDespite the difficulties, both Danjuma and his mother give thanks to the Lord,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

representative Foley says.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]When asked about his attackers, Danjuma said,<\/p>\n

\u201cI forgive them because they did not know what they were doing. If they had loved, they wouldn\u2019t have behaved that way.\u201d He added, \u201cI do not feel any burden. I have allowed God to handle everything.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Voice of the Martyrs has been supporting Danjuma and his mother since the attack. Danjuma has undergone several surgeries and is now attending a school for the blind.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, Danjuma isn\u2019t an exception in Northern Nigeria,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cMost Christians there have lost family members to Islamic militants. Many are martyred and many more are left with gruesome scars, missing limbs, and physical disabilities.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
