Since taking power in 2014, the BJP-led government has overseen a dramatic rise in Christian persecution in India. In 2014, the year the BJP took power, the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) documented 147 violent attacks on Christians in India. In 2018, that number more than doubled with EFI documenting 325 violent attacks on Christians.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]With the BJP securing a second five-year term in power, many Christian persecution advocacy groups are calling on Christians around the world to renew their prayers for Indian Christians and join in the care for the persecuted there.<\/p>\n

\u201cHindu nationalists believe that every Indian should be a Hindu,\u201d says Voice of the Martyrs Korea representative Hyun Sook Foley.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThat is not just the viewpoint of a small group of thugs. It is the position of the BJP and the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Representative Foley notes that the anti-Christian violence is not new. When his assailants left,<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Swami was then taken to police station, where they questioned him about distributing Gospel tracts, instead of questioning the people who had beat him so severely,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

recalls Representative Foley.
\nThe attack caused a brain hemorrhage, and one side of Swami\u2019s body was paralyzed for 18 months. Foley said Voice of the Martyrs and its field partners never left Swami\u2019s side, providing aid and encouragement to Swami\u2019s family. Following multiple surgeries and two years of physical therapy, Representative Foley says Swami is steadily improving.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re starting to see physical improvements two years after that attack, due to the care and prayers of Christians around the world.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
