But during that time, she found true freedom and a purpose.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When a North Korean friend there shared the gospel with her in 2015,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0decided to visit her church and learn more about Jesus. But after attending<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a few services, she found it difficult to connect with church members and stopped attending. North Koreans often feel isolated in China. They avoid contact with Chinese people because they are there illegally.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then, one day she happened to meet a VOM worker. \u201cI was invited to his church,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>she<\/span><\/span>\u00a0recalled. \u201cOver time, as I saw his honesty and service to other North Korean ladies, I started<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>understanding what it means to live as a Christian.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The VOM worker visited\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0regularly and helped her with Bible study, eventually leading her to faith in Christ. \u201cChrist came to my heart through the life of the VOM worker,\u201d she said. \u201cMy heart filled up with joy as I came to know the Lord after 20 years of my life in China all\u00a0<\/span><\/span>by myself.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Now, God and his people are with me.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Finding Her Purpose ” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center|line_height:2em” css=”.vc_custom_1622005394692{margin-top: 1em !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”36751″ img_size=”450×450″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1622001843737{margin-bottom: 0.1px !important;}”][vc_custom_heading text=”Police have told Mrs. L not to gather in people\u2019s homes when visiting North Koreans in China. But she doesn\u2019t let that stop her from joining them for worship.” font_container=”tag:h5|font_size:14px|text_align:center|line_height:1.4em” google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1622005321767{margin-top: 1em !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_separator color=”white”][vc_column_text]In 2017, the VOM worker invited\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to join him on a visit to some other North Korean women living in China.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The trip moved her deeply.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs I accompanied him on the visit, I could not believe how much effort he<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>poured out,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0said. \u201cHe had to drive from the early morning to the late evening to meet one North Korean lady. He was even physically weary, but he kept doing this work. Whenever we went to meet her, I saw him preparing and packing care packages for the person we would be going to meet.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>I had never seen people like him before.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As they continued to meet with older North Korean women,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0wondered why the worker continued to<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>take the visits so seriously. \u201cIsn\u2019t this just too much?\u201d she asked. \u201cIt is too painful to visit such poor ladies who nobody<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is ever concerned about.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>You must feel exhausted. I feel\u00a0<\/span><\/span>sorry for you.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The worker looked her in the eyes and said, \u201cDear sister, it is my joy and honor to serve the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Lord.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>I feel true joy in this work.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a new world to me,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L\u00a0<\/span><\/span>said.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As she continued traveling with the worker to visit women living in<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>poverty, she began to enjoy the ministry and awaken to the needs of others. \u201cI used to always think that my life was<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>so miserable, but now I came to the realization that some of my people suffer greater than me,\u201d she said. \u201cI began to feel what it means to serve the Lord.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Like the VOM worker said before, I felt true joy as I served other people.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>I found something valuable in my life.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The care packages they deliver are more than just a means of blessing them. They are also a way to share the love of Christ with them. \u201cI hope that each one comes to believe in the Lord and to have strong faith to endure it and carry on,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0said.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs. L\u00a0<\/span><\/span>regularly helps deliver the packages, typically distributing them to two people each trip. Prior to distribution day, she helps the VOM worker schedule the visits. Then, on the day of the visits, they spend a couple of hours purchasing items from local shops and filling the packs with personal care items, medicine, clothes and an audio-Bible device.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAfter that, we got in the car and sometimes would have to travel for four hours just to get to the location,\u201d she said. \u201cAfter spending a couple of hours at the homes, worshiping and fellowshipping, I could feel and see the dramatic change of their spiritual condition on their face.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Out on Her Own ” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center|line_height:2em” css=”.vc_custom_1622005464444{margin-top: 1em !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”36753″ img_size=”450×450″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1622002055843{margin-bottom: 0.1px !important;}”][vc_custom_heading text=”Mrs. L stands next to a completed ministry pack, just like the ones she used to give North Koreans who lived in Northeast China.” font_container=”tag:h5|font_size:14px|text_align:center|line_height:1.4em” google_fonts=”font_family:Noto%20Sans%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1622005329818{margin-top: 1em !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_separator color=”white”][vc_column_text]After learning the basics of ministry work among North Korean women in China,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0started visiting them by herself. On two memorable visits, she brought care packages to a<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>divorced mother of two living on top of a mountain and visited a woman suffering from terminal lung cancer.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0was so moved by their stories that she gave them each gifts using her own money.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of her trips to meet North Korean women have taken her into rural areas<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of China where she is quickly detected as an outsider. \u201cIf I visit other women in their home, people begin to be curious and suspicious about what is going on,\u201d she said. \u201cIf we ever sing or pray aloud at the home, the people sometimes report it to the police because people do not like Christianity. I was sold when I was young. I risked getting fined or even sent back to North Korea if police showed up.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>However, the police know we are here.”<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Often, she said, the police tell her and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>those she is traveling with not to gather at people\u2019s homes. \u201cWhen I read the Bible, I realized that nobody could stop us from gathering to worship God,\u201d she said. \u201cI kept visiting and delivering [the care packages] and the gospel to other people.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She frequently hears from those who receive the care packages, staying in touch through a messaging app.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou cannot imagine how much even one tube of toothpaste produces such great gratitude,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mrs. L<\/span><\/span>\u00a0said. \u201cThey are just so thankful for these packages and for God\u2019s Word. The packs are very important because they can actually<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>be blessings to meet both physical and spiritual needs.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because she knows personally the value of the care packages from her time in China, she is committed to participating in VOM’s ministry to provide them to North Koreans not only in South Korea where she now lives, but as a missionary in training wherever North Koreans are found.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
